The German-Dutch transmission grid operator TenneT has received ownership of SylWin1, the most powerful offshore grid connection to date. The offshore platform of the SylWin1 grid connection is located around 70 km west of the German Island of Sylt, of which the project was named.
Pakistan has awarded a $1.5 billion contract for what is claimed to be the largest solar power plant in the world. When finished the plant, to be built in Bahawalpur by Chinese company Zonergy Company Ltd, will have a power generating capacity of 900 MW.

The United Arab Emirates has announced plans to develop another 100 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power capacity. The proposals form part of its Vision 2021, which aims to source 24 per cent of its energy from renewable energy sources.
