Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has launched two new wind turbines, one for onshore and one for offshore applications.
Research from the Carnegie Institution for Science, headquartered in Washington DC, USA, says that there is considerable opportunity for generating wind power in the open ocean, particularly the North Atlantic.
China and the UK are collaborating on the development of the next generation of offshore wind power capacity, with a focus on identifying the best locations for new installations, and making them more resilient to harsh weather conditions including typhoons and earthquakes.
Siemens Gamesa and DONG Energy have signed an agreement for the supply of 94 8MW turbines, for a total capacity of 752MW at the Borssele 1 and 2 offshore wind power plant being developed in Dutch waters.
Siemens Gamesa have installed five 6 MW wind turbines on floating platforms in Stord, Norway for the 30 MW Hywind Scotland project, the world’s largest floating wind farm.
EnBW has awarded Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy with the installation of the 112 MW EnBW Albatros offshore wind power plant.

4000 GW of untapped US offshore wind energy has become realized as major offshore wind developers and oil giants take to the U.S coastline to develop utility-scale windfarms. This paper is essential reading for wind farm developers, EPC’s, Vessel Contractors or any company supplying or transitioning into the offshore wind sector (including oil and gas services). It contains key stats and facts, state-by-state development plans, details of offshore wind development areas, lease auctions and more.
