Siemens Gamesa and DONG Energy have signed an agreement for the supply of 94 8MW turbines, for a total capacity of 752MW at the Borssele 1 and 2 offshore wind power plant being developed in Dutch waters. In addition, the contract includes maintenance of the wind turbines.
The wind power plant will be located 22km from the coast of the Dutch province of Zeeland, with a water depth of 14-38m.
The nacelles for this project will be assembled in Siemens Gamesa’s new factory in Cuxhaven, Germany. The blades for the Borssele 1 and 2 projects will be produced in Hull, England.
The 8MW turbine is based on the existing Siemens Gamesa offshore direct drive platform. More than 200 direct drive wind turbines in the 6-8MW class have already been installed and commissioned in offshore wind farms.
Michael Hannibal, CEO Offshore at Siemens Gamesa, said: “We are pleased that DONG Energy has selected Siemens Gamesa for the Bossele 1 and 2 offshore wind power plant in the Dutch part of the North Sea. The advanced model of our proven direct drive offshore wind turbine platform and our advanced services will leverage the energy output of this project and help to move offshore wind into the energy mainstream in Europe.”
