The Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) has applied to the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) for a 25-year renewal of its licence to operate the 920 MW coal-fired Hwange Power Station Units I and II, located in Matabeleland North Province.
ZPC said that the renewal bid is a significant step towards strengthening Zimbabwe’s energy security, with Hwange as a critical component of the country’s electricity grid. Its continued operation reduces dependence on electricity imports and mitigates power shortages.
