Zimbabwe has announced plans to build a solar power panel manufacturing plant, marking a shift in its energy and industrialisation strategy. The plan hopes to attract foreign investment into renewable energy and clean technologies while building domestic clean energy production capacity.
Investment would significantly reduce import dependence and embed renewable energy within Zimbabwe’s broader industrialisation drive.
Zimbabwe aims to achieve 2640 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with plans to add 1575 MW of solar, 275 MW of bioenergy, 150 MW of small hydropower, and 100 MW of wind power.
Among the projects under development are the 100 MW Runde River solar park, being developed by Energywise ; Infraco is developing the 30 MW Vungu solar plant; Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe is constructing a 70 MW solar plant; and Afreximbank is funding the 1 GW Kariba floating solar project.
