Construction has started on a 10 MW, $8 million solar power plant in Mwandi District, in Zambia’s Western Province. The project will strengthen power supply in the region and support the national grid.

The plant is being developed on 40 hectares in the Mwilima area of Mwandi District. It is expected that it will generate 22 GWh annually.

The project is being developed by Lunzua Power Company and Valinor Investments . The electricity generated by the plant will be fed onto the national grid via a dedicated evacuation line being constructed as part of the project. Construction work is being carried out by SANY International (Zambia) Industrial Company and is expected to be completed within six months.

The project is expected to support Zambia’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and improve reliable electricity access while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
