Yuanlin Energy Investments of China will build a 600 MW coal-fired power station in Binga, Matabeleland North Province, Zimbabwe, worth an estimated $2 billion.
The Kalungwizi Power Station will be one of the largest private sector-led energy developments in Zimbabwe in recent years. It will help ease chronic power shortages in the country.
Preparatory work is underway. The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) process has officially commenced.
The Kalungwizi project will involve development of both generation and transmission infrastructure. It will include construction of substations, transmission lines, access roads, and worker accommodation camps.
