Xcel Energy has announced plans to build 5.5 GW in Texas and New Mexico, consisting of 521 MW of extensions on existing facilities and the addition of 17 new power projects of a combined capacity of 5168 MW. These additions are scheduled to be operational by 2030.
Included in this are 1968 MW of wind and solar facilities.
The region’s electricity demand is expected to grow by over 40 per cent by 2030, driven by population growth, industrial expansion, and increased electrification.
Adrian Rodriguez, President of Xcel Energy – Texas, New Mexico, said “This portfolio is about more than just adding power. We are working to increase speed to market with a stronger, modern, and more resilient energy system that our customers can count on.”
