Wärtsilä has won a contract from Elektron Energy to supply power generation equipment for a new 30 MW power plant on Victoria Island in Lagos. Wärtsilä will also operate and maintain the power plant for five years, as well as the EPC contract.
The power plant will run on natural gas and will be embedded within the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) at its NEPA Close Site. The plant will enhance the availability and reliability of power supply to EKEDC’s consumers.
The project is a first of its kind for Nigeria and is expected to serve as a model to enable similar, optimally-sized and locally-financed power projects in the country.
Clearing and preparation activities at the site are due to be completed by the end of Q2 2025, when construction can start. Commissioning is expected 15 months after the start of construction.
