GE Vernova has announced that PetroVietnam Power Corporation ’s (PV Power) 1.6 GW Nhon Trach 3&4 Power Plant in Ong Keo Industrial Park, about 70 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has started commercial operation.
Nhon Trach 3&4 is the first HA-powered plant in Vietnam, as well as the first to be powered by LNG.
GE Vernova supplied two 800 MW blocks, each consisting of: a 9HA.02 gas turbine, an STF-D650 steam turbine, a W88 generator, and a once-through HRSG. It also supplied its integrated Mark VIe distributed control system.
PV Power said: “GE Vernova’s 9HA.02 gas turbine enables the plant to achieve greater than 63 per cent combined cycle efficiency. It also offers versatile fuel-switching capabilities – operating on LNG now, supporting up to 50 per cent hydrogen co-firing and paving the way for 100 per cent hydrogen use in the future.”
