Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held a groundbreaking ceremony on 22 Feb for Phase 2 of the Bac Ai pumped storage hydropower plant in Ninh Thuan province.

The Bac Ai project, the country’s first pumped storage hydropower facility, will have a total installed capacity of 1200 MW, consisting of four 300 MW units. The project has a total investment of $830 million, financed through loans and EVN’s capital allocation. Unit 1 is scheduled to start operation in December 2029, and full project completion is expected in May 2031.
