The USA and Japan have announced major Japanese investments in US power generation.
GE Vernova Hitachi , the 50:50 joint venture of GE Vernova and Hitachi Group, will invest $40 billion to build SMRs in the US states of Tennessee and Alabama. It will also invest $33 billion in gas-fired power plants in the states of Pennsylvania and Texas.
Around $17 billion will be invested in the 4.3 GW South Mon project being developed by NextEra Energy Resources in southwest Pennsylvania, and $16 billion will be invested in a 5.2 GW gas-fired project in Anderson County, Texas.
