UK’s National Energy System Operator (NESO) has said that the country’s electricity system was “resilient to the challenges it may face over the winter”. This is part of a report commissioned after concerns had been expressed.
NESO said supplies were expected to remain secure throughout the winter, though warned that there could be “tight days”. It said that these tight days might result in it deploying notices to power producers that additional electricity generation might be needed. It said that such an announcement was routine.
The investigation was prompted after the opposition Conservative shadow energy secretary Clare Coutinho claimed she had been contacted by a whistleblower alleging that NESO had been “hiding information about how securely our grid is being run.”
