President Trump of America is expected to announce on 4 June that his administration will give about $700 million in an attempt to bolster coal-fired power plants.
Trump will use authority under the Cold War-era Defense Production Act of 1950 to give $425 million to 13 existing coal-fired power plants and $75 million for a coal export terminal in California. In addition, he will announce a $185 million grant from the Energy Department to build a new coal-fired power plant in both Alaska and West Virginia, and to restart a plant in Maryland.
Coal power use has been declining in the USA since its peak in 2007.
