Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has announced it will reactivate Unit 6 of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture, Japan in January 2026.
This will be the first TEPCO reactor to go back into service since the accident at Fukushima Daiichi in 2011.
TEPCO says it plans to reactivate the unit on 20 January. Once it has been reactivated, it will conduct further equipment checks while ramping up output and resuming power generation and transmission. TEPCO plans to return the reactor to commercial operation by the end of March 2026.
