The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and JSC Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) have announced a tender for the purchase of container gas engine power plants for Ukraine, each of a capacity of 1.8-3.5 MW, for a total capacity of 215 MW, using EBRD loan funds and grant financing.
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to gain a loan of €180 million from the EBRD to finance the supply and installation of small gas-fired power generation with a total capacity of up to 270 MW.
The UK will provide a grant of £10 million through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. Ukraine also hopes to attract €56 million in grant funding.
As a result of this project, Ukraine’s rail sector will be able to continue to operate even through blackouts caused by Russian missile and drone strikes.
