Türkiye has announced plans to invest approximately $108 billion in power generation and transmission infrastructure by 2035. Alparslan Bayraktart, Türkiye’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister, said that the country was aiming to achieve 120 GW of installed wind and solar capacity by 2035.

Bayraktar said that the country’s transmission network has expanded significantly in recent years, with the total length of transmission lines increasing by 80 per cent to 77 000 km from 2005 to 2025. He said that over this period, the number of transmission substations owned by Türkiye’s Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) increased from 512 to 824, while the number of transmission transformers rose from 1096 to 2215.

Under the Renewable Energy 2035 Roadmap, Türkiye aims to reach 120 GW of installed wind and solar capacity. Bayraktar said that achieving this target will require $80 billion investment in power generation and $28 billion in transmission infrastructure. He said expanding and strengthening grid connections would be a key part of Türkiye’s new energy architecture. He said: “In this context, we will build HVDC energy corridors with a total length of 9580 km and a capacity of 28 GW. In addition, we will commission 15 000 km of new AC transmission lines.”
