Alparslan Bayraktar, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, has said that the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is scheduled to become partially operational during 2025 and fully operational by 2028.
The plant, located in the southern province of Mersin, will consist of four reactors with a total combined capacity of 4.8 GW once completed.
Türkiye has also announced plans to establish two additional nuclear power plants by 2050, one in the Thrace region and one in the Black Sea province of Sinop. It also plans to install 5 GW of SMRs to further diversify the country’s energy mix, with final decisions scheduled for later this year.
