Alparslan Bayraktar, Türkiye’s Energy Minister, has announced that Türkiye and the World Bank have begun talks for $6 billion in financing to upgrade the country’s electricity transmission system.
Bayraktar said: “The financing will be used for high voltage DC transmission line investments.” Türkiye plans major expansions to its electricity transmission and distribution system, including thousands of km of HVDC transmission, requiring a total investment of $28 billion.
Türkiye has stated a goal of quadrupling wind and solar generation capacity to 120 GW over the next decade as well as building two nuclear power plants. These will require expansion to its transmission grid.
