Mohammed Al Bashir, Syria’s Minister of Energy, has announced that Syria will sign a deal with Türkiye whereby Türkiye will supply electricity through a 400 kV transmission line linking Türkiye’s Reyhanlı region and the Harem region in Syria.
Al Bashir said that the agreement includes work to establish a natural gas pipeline from the Turkish city of Kilis to Aleppo, with a capacity of up to six million cubic metres per day. This will support electricity generation in Syria. He has invited Turkish companies to invest in Syria’s energy sector, with opportunities in oil and gas exploration, refining, energy transmission, rehabilitation of power lines, and the repair of damaged power plants.
Syria has a severe electricity shortage.
