EDF and the UK Government have signed an agreement to extend the lifespan of the 1.2 GW Sizewell B nuclear power station in Suffolk, UK until 2055, 20 years after its original planned closure date of 2035.
EDF and the UK Government have signed a Contract for Difference (CfD) agreement to extend the plant’s lifetime to 2055. Under the agreement, a strike price of £70.50/MWh at 2025 prices has been agreed.
EDF will invest £800 million in major refurbishment works over a 15-year period. These will be carried out during station outages, which occur every 18 months. These works will include installation of environmental and plant monitoring systems and replacing aging pipework, valves, and pumps.
