Siemens has received an order for three SGT-4000F gas turbines from United Arab Emirates (UAE). The turbines will be used in Unit H Phase 4 of the Al Aweer power plant complex, located 35 km from Dubai. DEWA awarded the project EPC contract to Siemens in a consortium led by the Egypt-based El Sewedy Electric Co through its subsidiary Elsewedy Power.
The expansion project will increase the capacity of the plant by 815 MW to give a combined total output for the complex of over 2.8 GW. Commercial commissioning of the three gas turbine trains is scheduled for Spring 2020.
Siemens’ scope of supply includes three SGT5-4000F gas turbines, three SGen5-1200A generators, and the SPPA-T3000 control system, as well as assembly and commissioning on site. The new Unit H Phase 4 will act as a peak load power plant, intended to cover high energy demand during the Emirate’s hot summer months, and during the upcoming EXPO 2020 exhibition.
Jean Claude Nasr, Vice President for the sales region Middle East and North Africa at Siemens Power and Gas, said: “This new order from DEWA is proof of the trust that the Government of Dubai places in Siemens’ technology. We have been working with DEWA for more than 20 years to continuously improve Dubai’s local power generation infrastructure and help to ensure sufficient and reliable power supply here.”
