Shell to acquire 9.6 GW renewable power company in India

Shell has announced that it plans to acquire Sprng Energy for $1.55 billion, a renewable energy company in India owned by the investment firm Actis . Sprng Energy has 9.6 GW in its renewable energy portfolio, including 2.1 GW of operational capacity.

Shell has made other investments in the Indian renewable energy sector in the past, but this will be its first in the utility-scale solar and wind domain. It has interests in the bio energy power company Husk Power Systems and Cleantech Solar, a solar power developer focused on commercial and industrial consumers.
