Energy group Sev.en has announced that it will shut down the Počerady and Chvaletice coal-fired power plants and the power and heating plant in Kladno by March 2027, with the possibility of closure in December 2026.
These plants have a combined installed capacity of 2400 MW.
Sev.en cited the threat of permanent losses due to the outlook for market electricity prices and emissions allowance prices as the reason for the closure. It said that the economic situation is very unfavourable for energy producers that use lignite.
The company said: “All these circumstances have forced us to shut down our coal-fired facilities – at the Počerady and Chvaletice power plants and the Kladno heating plant – at the earliest legally possible date.”
