Sembcorp Industries has announced the temporary suspension of operations as its 225 MW gas-fired Sembcorp Myingyan IPP in Mandalay, Myanmar.
The decision follows the escalating civil unrest in the region. Sembcorp said that the safety of its employees is its top priority. Sembcorp has notified the Electric Power Generation Enterprise, a division of Myanmar’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy , which has approved the plant’s shutdown.
Security measures are being implemented to protect the plant during this period. Sembcorp has also maintained insurance coverage for the plant, particularly for property damage. The company said: “Sembcorp will look to resume operations at the plant as soon as reasonably practicable once conditions are safe.”
