The Russian Government has announced that Russia and Kazakhstan will sign an agreement outlining parameters for construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Kazakhstan has not possessed nuclear power generation since 1999, when the BN-350 reactor on the shores of the Caspian Sea was decommissioned. Kazakhstan plans to have 2.4 GW of nuclear capacity by 2035.
Kazakhstan has said Russia would provide 85 per cent of the financing for the plant, which is expected to be commissioned in 2035-2035.
China National Nuclear Corporation has also said it plans to build a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
