Iran and Russia have signed an MOU to expand nuclear cooperation through the construction of SMRs in Iran. Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom , met with Mohammad Eslami, President of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran , during Eslami’s trip to Moscow.
The MOU covers cooperation in construction of SMRs in Iran and “outlines specific steps aimed at implementing this strategic project,” according to Rosatom. The deal appears to be the culmination of negotiations between Rosatom and Iran.
Eslami said that Iran would construct eight nuclear power plants, part of a wider goal to reach 20 GW of nuclear capacity by 2041.
