Videberg Kraft has selected Rolls-Royce SMR as a partner to deliver three SMRs on the Värö peninsula on Sweden’s west coast. The Videberg project will be Sweden’s first new nuclear power plant in over 40 years.
The project will consist of three 470 MW SMR units, for a combined capacity of 1410 MW, representing around 6 per cent of Sweden’s annual power consumption. It will be scheduled to have a 60-year operating life.
The first unit is due to enter operation in the mid-2030s.
The Rolls-Royce SMR is based on a compact, three-loop PWR.
