The Karcham Wangtoo project has suffered a production drop of about 16 per cent, with output reduced from 1200 MW to 1000 MW due to the increased silt level. In addition, the Ghanavi and Larji projects have had to cease operations. Rain near Ghanavi caused considerable damage, halting operations in both its phases.

Experts say that further heavy rain could exacerbate the silt issue. The Nathpa Jhakri and Rampur projects, which supply electricity to North India, already face problems due to increased silt levels. If the situation worsens, power production across the state could see further declines.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, forecasting heavy rain. If these arise, the silt issues could intensify, potentially leading to greater declines in power production.
