Wind power produced the most electricity, followed by solar, which increased production by 21 per cent in 2025, overtaking coal for the first time. The share of electricity generation from fossil fuels stagnated in 2025, with the decline in coal-based generation being offset by rising natural gas use. The share of imports in the generation mix fell in 2025.

Wind generated 132 TWh in 2025, 3.2 per cent lower than in 2024. This fall was due to poorer wind conditions. Onshore wind generated 106 TWh, while offshore wind generated 26.1 TWh. In 2025, 4.5 GW of new onshore wind capacity was added, while offshore capacity only increased by 0.29 GW.

Solar systems generated 87 TWh in 2025. Total production increased by 15 TWh compared to the previous year. Installed solar capacity at the end of 2025 was 116.8 GW, with 16.2 GW being added during 2025.

Net generation from coal-fired power plants fell by 3.9 TWh to 67.2 TWh, while natural gas-fired plants increased generation by 3.7 TWh to 78.5 TWh.
