The Philippines Department of Energy (DOE) has said that it is optimistic the country will hit its target to increase to 50 per cent the share of renewable energy in power generation by 2040.
Mark Christian Marollano, Supervising Science Research Specialist for the Electric Power Industry Management Bureau (EPIMB) said that the share of renewable energy in the country’s total power mix is on course to reach 56.9 per cent, based on simulations run by the DOE. He said that it is estimated that the country will generate a total of 279 TWh in 2040, a 150 per cent increase over the 2022 level of 111.5 TWh.
