The Nigerian Government has officially handed over the 6 MW Ikere Hydropower Plant, located in Iseyin, Oyo State, Nigeria, to Quaint Power and Infrastructure Nigeria under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement.
Joseph Utsev, Nigeria’s Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, described this as a significant milestone in the government’s drive to bridge infrastructure financing gaps to enhance sustainable power generation through private sector participation. Utsev emphasised the importance of leveraging private sector expertise and capital to complement public investments.
Utsev said similar PPP initiatives are already contributing to increased electricity generation across the country. He outlined ongoing PPP hydropower projects, including the operational Dadinkowa and Kashimbila Hydropower Plants, and the Gurara Hydropower Plant, scheduled to start commercial operations in Q2 2026.
