Plans to build a nuclear power plant in Wales have taken an important step forward with the announcement of a delivery team for the £10 billion project. Menter Newydd is a joint venture between Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe, Bechtel, and JGC Corporation (UK), and will be responsible for the construction of Wylfa Newydd in Anglesey, Wales, overseen by Horizon Nuclear Power .
Horizon aims to provide 5.4 GW of new nuclear capacity in the UK across two sites, Wylfa Newydd and Oldbury in Gloucestershire, deploying Hitachi-GE Advanced Boiling Water Reactors. It expects the first unit at Wylfa to be operating in the first half of the 2020s.
