Morocco has announced plans to increase power generation capacity from 12 GW to 27 GW by 2030 through a €11.5 billion investment programme, announced by Leila Benali, Morocco’s Energy Transition Minister.
Benali said that renewable sources will make up 80 per cent of the increase.
Currently, over 2 GW of renewable energy projects have been authorised, representing an investment of €1.7 billion. Morocco plans to add a further 9 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2027.
Morocco will also invest €2.8 billion in upgrading its national electricity grid by 2030, including developing a 3 GW power link connecting the southern and central regions. The government will allow private sector involvement in the electricity network.
