Eisaku Ito, CEO of MHI, said the company initially planned to boost gas turbine production by 30 per cent, but decided that wouldn’t meet accelerating demand. The decision comes as the International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that data centres will consume nearly half of all new electricity supply added to the US grid until 2030.

MHI said it is expanding output by improving production efficiency even as manufacturing costs have nearly doubled due to expensive materials, supplies, and skilled labour shortages.

According to Utility Dive, the current wait time for delivery of new gas turbines for power generation can be up to seven years.
