Mitsubishi Power has won an order to supply a 100 MW CCGT power plant for Jiangsu Lihuai Steel, a major Chinese steelmaker. The newly developed M100S gas turbine fired by blast furnace gas (BFG) will be utilised as a core component of the plant. This is the first order for this new model.
The M100S gas turbine was developed by combining technology for BFG-fired large-scale turbines with natural gas-fired JAC gas turbines, which have high performance and reliability. The M100S has an output of 100 MW in combined cycle and Mitsubishi Power claims that it is both smaller and more efficient than conventional models.
Operation of the CCGT power plant at the steel plant in Huai’an City in Jiangsu Province is scheduled to start in 2027.
The M100S gas turbine and related equipment will be manufactured and supplied by Mitsubishi Power’s Takasago Machinery Works, with other equipment being procured locally in China, including from Dongfang Electric Corporation . The plant will use by-product gas from blast furnaces, coke ovens, and converters as fuel.
Blast furnace gas has a lower calorific value than natural gas and other fuels, and advanced technology is required for the stable combustion of gas turbines using BFG.
