Mitsubishi Power has completed construction of the eighth and final M701JAC unit of a 5300 MW natural gas-fired power plant project in Thailand.
The project, a joint venture between Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited , one of Thailand’s largest IPPs, and Mitsui of Japan successfully commenced full commercial operations in early October, 2024.
This was a multi-phase project awarded in 2018, featuring two CCTG plants in Chonburi and Rayong Provinces. Each plant is equipped with four M701JAC gas turbines, steam turbines, and HRSGs.
Boonchai Thirati, Deputy CEO for Gulf Energy Development said: “As a result of our collective efforts as a team, we successfully navigated challenges posed by Covid-19 and commenced the operation of all eight units on schedule. We thank all our partners for their excellent performance and look forward to continuing our partnership to deliver stable electricity to communities across Thailand.”
Mitsubishi Power will maintain the facilities under a 25-year long-term service agreement. The project has a 25-year PPA with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
