Rystad Energy , a Norwegian energy intelligence company, has reported that solar energy is set for significant growth in the Middle East. It also said that it expects gas to remain important in the region, with 22 per cent in power generation mix by 2050.
The region’s total solar capacity exceeded 16 GW at the end of 2023 and is projected to reach nearly 23 GW by the end of 2024. Rystad Energy also said that it expected the region to have 100 GW of solar capacity by 2030, driven by green hydrogen projects that contribute to an annual growth rate of 30 per cent.
Rystad Energy predicts that solar PV will become the region’s leading energy source, accounting for more than 50 per cent of the region’s power supply by 2050, a significant increase from its current 2 per cent share.
