Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has announced that it has launched verification testing to gauge the performance of a new solar thermal power system at its Yokohama Works plant in Japan. The testing will continue until March 2017 under a contract from Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, and will examine the efficiency improvement enabled by higher temperature steam than that produced by earlier systems, and optimal control of the high temperature thermal energy storage system.
Testing to examine the viability of using the high temperature thermal energy storage system to generate power at night will start in October.
