Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) will start construction of a production shop for gas turbine rotors in Pooler, Georgia, USA. Plans call for construction to start in the second quarter of 2012, and completion in the third quarter of 2013. The rotor production shop will be built on the premises of MHI’s Savannah Machinery Works. MHI said that this plant will enable the company to expand production in North America, where it expects demand for combined cycle gas turbine power plants to increase sharply.

The rotor manufacturing shop will be operated by Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas (MPSA), a Florida-based subsidiary that is the regional headquarters of MHI’s power systems business in the Americas. The new 6500 m2 rotor manufacturing shop will undertake final machining and final assembly of rotors, with an annual production capacity of 12 units.

In addition, MHI is constructing a gas and steam turbine after-service shop and a gas and steam turbine assembly shop at the site, in addition to the combustor manufacturing shop that has been in full-scale operation since Spring 2011.
