Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGen), the power generation arm of Meralco, has announced plans to double its power generation capacity by 2030.
Emmanuel Rubio, President and CEO of MGen, said that the company plans to increase its net saleable capacity from 5068 MW to 10 346 MW and its attributable capacity from 2559 MW to 5288 MW by 2030.
This will be achieved through several major projects, including the planned 3500 MW €3 billion MTerra Solar power park. This is scheduled to be fully online by 2027, and will be equipped with a 4500 MWh battery energy storage system.
Rubio also said that the growth would be assisted by the 1200 MW Atimonan One Energy Project, Excellent Energy Resources Unit 4 Toledo expansion, and Singapore's PacificLight Power ’s 670 MW hydrogen-ready CCGT. He added that he hadn’t included the planned Terra Solar 2 in the figures above, as MGen has yet to finalise its design capacity.
