Unit 2 currently contributes 946 MW to the national grid and has demonstrated reliability by operating at 100 per cent energy availability factor (EAF) for 241 consecutive days this year.

Unit 1 received a 20-year operating licence extension in 2024, extending its operating life until 21 July 2044.

Velaphi Ntuli, Chief Nuclear Officer for Eskom, said: “The granting of the 20-year life extension to Koeberg Unit 2 is the result of the hard work, focus, and dedication of our highly skilled and competent employees at Koeberg, supported by colleagues across the company and throughout the nuclear value chain in this country.”
