Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has confirmed that South Korea’s government plans a major restricting of the company. It confirmed that under the terms of a recently announced Public Institution Function Reform Promotion Plan, its five power generation facilities will be merged into a single entity.
KEPCO said that the merger plan originates from the government’s reform initiative and that specific details of the consolidation have not yet been finalised.
KEPCO said that more information would be released either when concrete decisions have been made, or by the end of December 2026, whichever comes first. It said that stakeholders should anticipate that there will be significant organisational changes with potential implications for governance and operational efficiency in the power sector.
