The Australian firm Syngas and the Chinese company Kailuan Energy Chemical have announced that they have signed a Letter of Intent. The companies aim to implement above ground coal gasification and coal-to-liquid projects, and to successfully develop and operate biomass power generation projects.

Syngas’ current portfolio of projects are covered by this agreement, including the 3 MW Bomen Project, a wood waste electricity generation project located in Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia. Other biomass power projects are being assessed, including cereal crop residue trials in South Australia.

Since completion of the Clinton Coal-to-Liquid Project Pre-Feasibility study in April 2009, Syngas has been seeking a strategic partner like Kailuan. Experts say that there is a very good fit between Syngas and Kailuan. Kailuan has stated that it wants to move into coal gasification, a specialism of Syngas.

Merrill Gray, Managing Director of Syngas, said: “This is a major development for Syngas. We now have the benefits of this relationship with Kailuan, as well as our existing relationship with China National Electric Engineering Corporation.”
