J-Power of Japan has announced plans to close two units at a coal-fired power plant by the end of fiscal 2028 as part of its commitment to reduce emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
J-Power will close Units 1 and 2 at the Takasago Thermal Power Station as part of its plan to phase-out inefficient coal-fired power plants. J-Power is also looking to select optimal technologies to reduce emissions at its high-efficiency coal-fired power plants.
The share of fossil fuels in Japan’s power supply fell to 60 per cent in the first half of 2025, the lowest on record.
