The Iraq Government has announced that it is seeking international investors to build seven solar power plants in the south of the country. These plants will have a combined total capacity of 750 MW. The Iraq Oil Ministry said that it was keen to expand small renewable power generation capacity, and that it was in talks with Total of France and “Norwegian companies”.
The Iraq Oil Ministry said that all the seven solar power plants would be built in the south of the country, including a 300 MW plant in Kerbala.
The Iraq national grid currently supplies of a few hours of power a day. Solar energy is currently rare in the country.
