Mahmoud Dashtbozorg, an official with the Iran Power Development Company, said that Iran ranks first in the Middle East in electricity generation, and 15th in the world. He said that the Energy Ministry will roll out power projects that will increase Iran’s electricity generation capacity by 5 GW in 2012. He added that over 10 GW should be added to the generation capacity of hydropower and thermal power plants by August 2013, the last month of President Ahmadinejad’s administration.

Iran’s Energy Minister, Majid Namjou, said that by 2015, the end of Iran’s Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan, the country will boost its generation capacity by 25 GW to reach 73 GW.
