India has produced revised guidelines for its waste-to-energy programme under the National Bioenergy Programme, aiming to develop a more efficient system for developing the technology.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said in a statement: “These revisions aim to foster a more efficient, transparent, and performance-oriented ecosystem for Bio Waste to Energy deployment in India.”
The revisions make several changes to improve processes and encourage more investment. The revisions improve the system for releasing Central Financial Assistance (CFA). There is a provision to release the assistance in two stages. 50 per cent of total CFA will be released after obtaining the Consent to Operate certificate, and the balance after achieving 80 per cent of the rated capacity or the maximum CFA eligible capacity, whichever is lesser.
The inspection process has also been refined to ensure greater credibility, transparency, and accountability.
