India’s Ministry of Power has approved an urgent request from Nepal to increase electricity exports to Nepal amid severe disruption caused by the floods.

Under the arrangement, Nepal can receive 654 MW for up to 18 hours daily until the end of 2026. India has authorised two corridors through which Nepal can draw power. Up to 600 MW can be supplied through the Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar 400 kV transmission line, with an additional 54 MW being transmitted through the Tanakpur-Mahendranagar 132 kV transmission line.

The approved supply will be available from midnight until 6pm each day.

The Ministry of Power said that it would review the situation in December.
