India has added over 52 GW of new power generation capacity during the first ten months of the 2026 financial year, a new record.
According to India’s Power Ministry, a total of 52.537 GW from various sources have been integrated into the grid, beating the previous record of 34.054 GW achieved in FY 2025.
Of the new capacity, 39.657 GW is sourced from renewable energy options, including 34.955 GW from solar power and 4.613 GW from wind power. In addition, India has added 8.81 GW from coal-fired power plants over this period.
The increase in capacity represents a growth of over 11 per cent in India’s total installed power generation capacity.
